If system flush pressure on an arterial line system is too high, what will happen?

Pressure dampening

The key idea is how the transmission system for arterial pressure can be damped. An arterial line is a fluid-filled circuit that transduces arterial pressure through a transducer. If the flush solution is kept at too high a pressure, it adds excessive flow and damping to the circuit, smoothing out the pulsatile signal. The result is a damped waveform with a blunted systolic peak and a less distinct dicrotic notch, often leading to underestimation of systolic (and sometimes mean) pressure. In practice, this makes the tracing look flatter and less pulsatile.

The other options don’t fit this situation: overshoot of the systolic reading is typical of an underdamped (overly responsive) system, not when the line is over-damped by high flush pressure. Zero drift artifacts relate to calibration and sensor baseline, not the flush pressure level. Air embolism would require air entry, which isn’t caused by simply having a high flush pressure.
